Chris Norton
Born in Jacksonville, Florida, Chris began playing the trumpet as a child – influenced by the hypnotic jazz stylings of Louis Armstrong and Miles Davis. As his craft developed, he found his voice – literally. The instrumentalist evolved into a talented vocalist and began singing and playing trumpet in his live shows. After mastering both crafts, Chris decided to take his talents to the entertainment capital of the world – New York City. It wasn’t long before Chris became one of the most sought-after and lauded performers on the NYC social scene. His unique shows earned him artist residencies and private events at the city’s most iconic venues including The Waldorf Astoria, The Rainbow Room, Cipriani, the St. Regis, The Plaza, The Standard Hotel, Le Cirque, The SoHo Grand, One World Trade, The New York Public Library, Lincoln Center, Metropolitan Oprea House, and Tavern on the Green. Mark O'Connor's An Appalachian Christmas
ENCORE: Back by Popular Demand. Mark your calendars for Saturday, November 21st for return of the national treasure, Mark O’Connor. Mark will be performing An Appalachian Christmas featuring Maggie O’Connor. He began his creative journey at the feet of American fiddling legend Benny Thomasson, and the iconic French jazz violinist Stéphane Grappelli. Now he has melded these influences into a new American classical music and is perpetuating his vision of an American School of String Playing. Mr. O’Connor has won three Grammys, seven CMA awards as well as several national fiddle, guitar and mandolin champion titles. An Appalachian Christmas by Mr. O’Connor was released in 2010 to both critical and commercial success and continues to delight with holiday classics. The project has enjoyed many nation-wide tours.

A Highlands Christmas with Mike Kinnebrew
A Highlands Christmas tradition continues as singer-songwriter Mike Kinnebrew returns with his band for a night of Christmas music, stories, laughter, and songs of his own.
For years, Mike’s Christmas concerts have brought friends and families together in Highlands for an evening that feels less like a performance and more like coming home for the holidays. This year, the tradition comes to the Highlands Performing Arts Center for the first time.
Expect beloved Christmas songs, Mike’s signature storytelling, a few originals, and probably a surprise or two — all in a night built around the joy, nostalgia, and meaning of Christmas.

Hayde Bluegrass Orchestra
Hayde Bluegrass Orchestra is a seven-piece acoustic band from Oslo, Norway, that has captured hearts in both Norway and the US with its unique blend of bluegrass and Nordic folk – a style often dubbed “Nordicana.” Featuring fiddle, dobro, banjo, mandolin, guitar, and even an accordion alongside four-part vocal harmonies, the group delivers a fresh take on American roots music wrapped in a finely tuned folk sound. Diane C. McPhail will discuss her new novel, The French Innkeeper’s Daughter, being released September 29, and J.Tom Morgan will share insights into his latest book, A Rainy Night in Georgia, released September 15.
The conversation will be moderated by Ann Huckstep, offering audiences an engaging opportunity to hear from both authors about their new works, their inspiration, and the stories behind the stories.

The Highlands–Cashiers Film Festival (HCFF) has been called a curated, boutique gathering in the spirit of Telluride and early Sundance — and this September, it returns for its second year, bringing documentaries, competition dramas, filmmaker conversations, and an unmistakably mountain-town social calendar to the Western North Carolina plateau.
Born from a love of film, creativity, and community, the Highlands–Cashiers Film Festival (HCFF) is an annual celebration of storytelling in all its forms.
The festival showcases curated and independent films from around the world in competitive categories, sharing stories that inspire, connect, and reveal our shared humanity.
Supported by volunteers and benefiting the Highlands Performing Arts Center, HCFF has quickly become a signature cultural gathering in the Western North Carolina mountains.

Film Screening: “Rise, Ruin, and Restoration: A History of Lake Toxaway” + Director Q&A

Join us for a local screening of “Rise, Ruin, and Restoration: A History of Lake Toxaway”, a documentary film that brings to life one of Western North Carolina's most captivating stories. The film, directed by Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Dan Johnson, chronicles the creation of Lake Toxaway, the dramatic collapse of its dam in 1916, and the remarkable effort to resurrect the mountain lake decades later.
John LeRoy Nichols III and Dan Johnson’s deep personal roots in the region inspired them to take the interviews Nichols had begun capturing a decade earlier and create a documentary to preserve the area’s rich history. The film includes the story of Nichol’s grandfather, Reginald Davies Heinitsh, whose vision and determination made the lake's rebirth possible. The documentary project was expanded to include the fascinating tale of local legend Lucy Armstrong Moltz, whose Toxaway mansion would eventually become the Greystone Inn.
It's a piece of history that shaped Transylvania County and the broader Southern Highlands community in ways that have long gone untold. Whether your family has called this mountain community home for generations or you're simply passionate about the history and landscapes of the Highlands-Cashiers area, this is a rare opportunity to hear a beloved regional story finally given the telling it deserves.
